Theology & Theatre
InActing Word:
June 23 – 26, 2016
This conference will explore how theatre and theology interplay with the theme InActing Word: Theology and Theatre. Under the guidance of theologian Ivan Khovacs and Broadway Actor and thespian Bruce Kuhn, we hope to better understand how theology and theatre work together to contribute a deeper insight to "word and deed" borne of dwelling richly in the Word.
Speakers
Bruce Kuhn is an internationally respected Broadway actor who has worked for more than two decades with such organizations as Intervarsity & Regent College, performing Gospel books and faith-inspired texts, and teaching how to convey the rich stories of scripture. Kuhn is currently employed much of the year by YWAM to teach a course entitled “Word by Heart,” in which he coaches church leaders from around the globe in both memorizing and faithfully exegeting huge sections – word by word – of Scripture text. He is based in Holland.

​Ivan Khovacs is a senior lecturer at Canterbury Christ Church University, UK. In addition to teaching Systematic Theology, Christian Doctrine, and Theology, Literature, Theatre, & Film, Dr. Khovacs oversees the Pastoral Theology program and directs theology education with both Church of England dioceses as well as the Franciscan International Study Centre. An alum of Regent College and St Andrew's University (ITIA), he is also currently curate at St James Church, Picadilly.

Come see internationally-acclaimed Broadway actor Bruce Kuhn perform his one-man play "Tales of Tolstoy." This performance is part of the 2016 Linlathen events happening in Ottawa Valley, Ontario. Leo TOLSTOY, author of War & Peace and Anna Kerenina, is widely regarded as one of the greatest authors of all time. His writing had a profound effect on such pivitol figures as Mahatma Ghandi, Martin Luther King Jr, and James Bevel. Kuhn's performance will bring to life some of Tolstoy's most famous short stories.

BRUCE KUHN performed on Broadway in Les Misérables, in the National Tours of Chess and Cotton Patch Gospel and in the resident company of the acclaimed Actor’s Theatre of Louisville in roles as diverse as D’Artagnan in The Three Musketeers and Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. He now tours his one-man shows throughout North America and Europe.

Bruce has taught storytelling at Regent College in Canada, Oxford University in England, and for IFES in nine countries. He received his classical training and Master of Fine Arts from the University of Washington in Seattle, and later trained with Uta Hagen in New York City. He is husband to Hetty, a landscape artist, and father to teenagers Frits and Juliette.
